We car camp. I have a truck with a cap that's our weekend home. I keep a food and water dish in the back at all times. When Millie's with me I bring an extra blanket. She's not a huge cuddler at home, very independent. It gets cold camping though and she wants to cuddle inside the bag, so an extra blanket on top makes it easier to pull her in and stay warm. More space.
Otherwise, during the day, I just have to watch her at all times. She's incredibly curious. She'll wander away from camp just to wander, explore, check things out. I'm sure she'd return, but there are eagles, coyote, fox, snakes, owls, any number of things that could off her. So I love to get her out in nature, but it's up to me to protect her. So I have to keep an eye on her always. Sometimes I take this into account when picking a spot to camp. If I can find a spot away from people that's wide open with easy view, that's ideal. if it's thickly wooded sometimes I have to leash her to me when cooking or sitting around the fire. She's at most ease without question when it's just me, her, and my girlfriend. Her being at ease, makes everything easier.
Some of my favorite visions are of Millie upon waking in our weekend home. Under the blanket staring, waiting for me to get up. Or staring out the window intently, excited to get out and explore. She has a morning routine of sitting on the tailgate for a moment observing the surroundings once I put it down, then dropping into the day.
